What a great time we had at the 20th Annual Sutton Art Group Exhibition last Saturday (25th November). The hall was teeming with beautiful work in all the colours, styles, media and subjects you could imagine. We don’t have the final figures for the number of pictures on show just yet, but lets just say we were struggling to fit them all in!
Our guest artist Elaine Nash did the honours of opening the proceedings and cutting the especially made cake alongside our very own Joan Reiter who founded the group all those years ago (Joan was also cake maker in chief!). Elaine also invited art group member, Kaye Locke, to read a poem she’d written especially for the occasion (copied below).
We’re delighted that the sale of refreshments and raffle tickets raised some £230.00 to be split between this year’s chosen charities, Muddy Fork and Bassetlaw Hospice.
The Art Group
Outside, the windows are awash,
Wet on wet this watercolour morning.
The messy collage of a weary world
continues out there, but inside, inside…
Inside is a cacophony of colour
spilling across the tables,
blending with pastel chuckles
and bright acrylic laughter.
The broad brushstrokes of practice
sit comfortably alongside
the detail of accomplishment,
each hand working, creating,
the paper absorbs the memories
these friends trace together
each Friday morning.
